A Crossroad Called Manzanar is a look back at how Japanese-Americans were treated during WWII, but from two very unique perspectives. First, the film looks at the “effort” during the war to distinguish between “Japanese enemies” and “Chinese friends” and secondly, from the vantage point of two young girls, one Chinese and one Japanese, whose innocence and friendship is caught up in the adult world of war.

We sat down with Writer/Director Cindy Fang, Writer Alice Kim and the film’s two young stars Ruka Nagashima and Sascha Tominaga to discuss the fascinating origins of how this film project began. A Crossroad Called Manzanar will be screened on April 30th @ 12:00PM at LS5. During this shorts program you can also see Ruka Nagashima in another starring role in Asako Ushio‘s film Hide and Seek which is a story of the separation of a mother and daughter after the mother leaves the family for another man.
