The theater collective Artists At Play was founded by Julia Cho, Peter Kuo, Stephanie Wong Lau, and Marie-Reine Velez and in November they will be presenting Lauren Yee’s play, Ching Chong Chinaman, that has turned every cliché about Asian American identity on its head! Starring some great talent, the play introduces us to the all-American Wong family: Ed (Ken Narasaki)the patriarch loves to golf and mom Grace (Helen H. Ota) wants another child; Desdemona (Julia Cho) obsesses over early admission into Princeton while her brother Upton (Scott Keiji Takeda) is focused on World of Warcraft superstardom. To ease the burden of homework and free up more time for training, Upton acquires an indentured servant from China. Life in the Wong household is turned upside down with the arrival of Jinqiang (“Ching Chong”) (Steve Hu)… who harbors his own American dreams! The cast also includes Elizabeth Ho, Sue Chan, Quincy Surasmith, Wanru Tseng & Kurt Yamamoto.
