Almost Perfect is an ensemble film with strong supporting characters that starts out a romantic comedy, then gradually moves towards a more serious treatment of family dysfunction. Writer/Director Bertha Pan had an idea of casting Edison Chen in the lead romantic role opposite Kelly Hu in the film, but for Edison, the role of Kelly Hu’s brother seemed a lot more exciting for him as an actor. And of course Edison managed to convince Bertha he was right for the brother role and was cast. So while Edison may be known mostly as a Hong Kong action star, choosing this dramatic role in a Hollywood indie film shows we can expect to see much more from this talented actor.
