The Academy‘s event continues tonight with the North American premiere of director Nguyen Quang Binh’s film Floating Lives. It certainly has been one of the most anticipated films in Vietnam and broke box office records when it opened there. In an age where American blockbuster films rule the box office even in countries like Vietnam, Floating Lives‘ sale records and continued popularity in Vietnamese cinemas has been nothing short of amazing. The buzz surrounding the film has placed it high on the “must see” list for film buffs here in North America and the premiere at UCLA is a an opportunity not to be missed (and we won’t).
Dustin Nguyen floated into L.A. for the premiere and even though he had just arrived and was still jet lagged, he was excited about giving us a a little background about the film and his role in the film. We sat down in his kitchen and shoved a cup of coffee in his hand which he obviously didn’t need since the excitement about the film was enough to overcome lack of sleep! We are happy to have that edited for you (below) and later today we will follow-up with director Quang Binh and Dustin‘s co-star Do Thi Hai Yen to discuss more about the making of the film. And if that isn’t enough, we will be on hand for the Q&A after the film tonight to show you some of the reaction to the film! Watch for screenings throughout North American in the coming months if you can’t be there tonight!
