American-born Omi Vaidya, a struggling actor in L.A., decides to go to India to see about financing for a film he wants to direct. The South-Asian actor unexpectedly lands a role in a Bollywod film, 3 Idiots and four of Omi’s buddies armed with cameras fly to Mumbai to document the film’s premiere. 3 Idiots has the biggest opening weekend ever in India and goes on to become the most successful Indian film in history and a huge success all over Asia transforming Omi into an overnight megastar in India.
The documentary film Big In Bollywood is a look at Bollywood through the eyes of Asian-American actor Omi Vaidya who struggles with a language barrier, the pressure of his newly acquired fame, and continuing to maintain a life and career at home in Los Angeles.
