We are constantly scanning the skies, we mean the news, about new shows and films for any signs of Asian life. Typically there are sightings and we bring them to readers attention via news, information and interviews. But in the land of Hollywood there is still much skepticism about whether or not there is Asian life on film because decisions are only slowly being made which are putting Asian actors/actresses and production crew in higher profile roles. Then along comes a movie called Sucker Punch which has beautiful cinematography and looks like a lot of fun. We immediately are excited about the hero being a heroine surround by a whole lot more heroines! This is gonna be great! And in typically asiansonfilm style we scanned through the trailer and the credits to see if there are Asian players in this film and suddenly it looks like an Asian invasion!

Let’s start at the top. The screenplay was co-written by Steve Shibuya and stars super hot hapa Vanessa Hudgens and double hot Jamie Chung. And remember that beautiful cinematography we mentioned? That’s thanks to Larry Fong. The editing is by William Hoy and there are more than 2 dozen working on VFX, a half dozen involved in stunts including Paul Wu who we mentioned in a previous post, plus Asian-Americans working on camera, electrical, casting, makeup, art department, and sound. It is a truly amazing contribution by Asian-American Hollywood. While we work on getting some interviews, go out and support the Asian invasion called Sucker Punch (and yes we are using the large size poster so you won’t forget!).
